A GREAT MAN

Jason Thayer Burns is my hero. He’s a great man for many reasons but mainly because of his determination and passion for what he loves. He’s a great family man, business man, musician but most important, my uncle.

Jason Burns was born in Dallas, Texas but raised in Louisiana. He was always an independent person that had a love of music. At a young age, Jason’s parents bought him his first guitar along with music lessons. After the first lesson, the music teacher quickly realized that he was a natural. By the next lesson, Jason had already taught himself and again the teacher was amazed at how quickly Jason picked up the guitar. By the time Jason was in high school and college, he was already in several bands playing the guitar and the upright bass.

In the early 1990’s, The Road Kings heard about Jason and asked him to join their band. Jason agreed and moved to Houston, Texas. After a short time with The Road Kings, their band started touring Europe. It was then, that Jason discovered that his upright bass would not sound as good at the end of the tour as it did in the beginning. This is when Jason took the old saying to heart, “If you want something done right, do it yourself!” He came home from tour and started working on building his own upright bass. After his fellow musicians heard the sound of the upright bass that he created, they started asking Jason to build them one. This gave Jason the idea to start his own business. Music was his passion in life and starting a company was his way of doing what he loved while building a career.

Today, Jason Burns has a thriving business in Orange, California. It has been almost 20 years since Jason built his first bass and although it has not been easy, he has continued to build upright basses, as well as launching another line of guitars. He is well-known throughout the music industry and admired by many great musicians.
